Summer is the best time for a wedding. There is no doubt that you have received at least one invitation to a summer wedding. Day weddings are more casual than evening weddings but it’s important not to dress up or down too much. Since day weddings can be held in a variety of settings, such as outside, make sure you look wonderful and stay cool, no matter where it is held.
Dress a Simple Gown. Don’t bother with complicated straps, shiny fabrics, ruffles or other types of adornment. Stick to a basic sheath or slip dress in a breathable fabric that will keep you cool. Avoid fabrics which wrinkle, bind or stick to you.
Go bright. You can wear a fun print or a bright, summer color for day weddings. Forget about the white dress and avoid black. Instead, pick something flattering and seasonal.
Dress modestly. Although summer day weddings are more casual than evening affairs, it is not an invitation to show bra straps, extreme cleavage, upper thigh or your rear end. Your outfit should never be extreme. If the ceremony is inside a church, you can bring a cover, such as a shawl or light sweater.
Wear a hat. If the reception or ceremony is outside, you will want to wear a hat to protect your face from the sun.
Wear proper shoes. Six inch stilettos are not suitable for daytime weddings. Keep flats or kitten heeled sandals, open toed and in neutral colors. You might even want to go a little more casual if the wedding is at a park or a beach.
Make your hair up. Keep your hair off of your neck and stay cool during outdoor weddings. Use pretty barrettes or clips to tame stray wisps.
Make sure your make-up is simple. Consider sheer and neutral. Smoky eyes are not suitable for daytime. Use sheer blush, lip gloss and light eye shadow colors. Do a double coat of mascara and skip the eyeliner. Use a shimmery bronzer on shoulders and bosom.
