NATURAL FACIAL CLEANSERS – THE INSIDE STORY

Natural cleaners, when made properly are a great help in the good health and appearance of your skin.

What do you mean made properly? Well there are several ingredients to choose from; many methods of manufacture; and most crucial the pH of the cleanser.

Cleaning is a vital step in anti-ageing and control of acne. In the case of a young teenager, regular cleansing is often all it takes to stop pimples developing.

For any cleanser to work a surfactant must be included. Surfactants are used in any cleaning product from car cleaners to washing up liquid to face cleansers.

Surfactants melt oil particles which in the case of your face can include makeup and natural sebum secreted daily. When we are handling our precious face the most gentle of surfactant needs to be used.

Sodium Lauryl Sulfate has been and is utilized all around the world by cosmetic companies but is harsh and can result in irritation to the skin.

A top quality natural face cleanser will utilise a plant derived surfactant such as caprylyl/capryl Glucoside or coco glucoside obtained from coconut. These ingredients are super light, non irritating and eco friendly.

Hydrating inclusions will include olive oil, macadamia oil, apricot, coconut or almond oils.

The pH of a skin care product whether it's cleanser or moisturiser or serum is very important.

Face cleanser pH ideally sits at about 5 – 6. If the pH is higher, irritation and stinging can occur. Dryness may be another side effect. Soaps are typically 8 – 10. Neutral is 7, acid is below 7 and alkaline is above 7.

The pH of your face skin can vary between 4.6 – 5.6. Cleansers with a high pH can not only dry your skin but damage the protective outer layer of the skin too.

Avoid washing your face with soap. Select instead a quality Natural Cleaner that holds gentle but effective ingredients.
