•  Basketball – If you’ve got a local basketball court in the neighbourhood, then playing a game of basketball would be the perfect solution. To make the teams fair, pick the 2 best players and choose them as the 2 respective captains of either teams. They then take turns picking players for their team. If there is only one hoop available, you can still play a half-court game where each team alternates in being the offense and defense team. 

•  Touch Footy – Touch footy is another great sport to play when you have mates that have come to celebrate your birthday. Based on the Australian sport Rugby League, touch footy brings all the creativity that rugby offers without the tackling, thus making it a safer option. To prevent you friends from tiring, it is appropriate to play 10 minute halves as touch footy is quite a fast sport. The aim of touch footy is for a team to score points by placing the ball on the other team’s goal line without being touched. Each team has 6 tags before they need to pass the ball to the other team. 

•  Backyard Cricket – This is ‘the’ sport Aussies love to play when they have guests over, especially during a barbeque. It can only serve as being an excellent sporting idea to play when having friends over to celebrate your birthday party. The basic rules of backyard cricket are that the batsman needs to hit the ball to certain areas to get runs since there may be a limitation in running wicket to wicket. If the ball goes over the neighbours fence, that is deemed 6 and out and the batsman must also go and fetch the ball. Usually there is one bowler, one batsman, one keeper and the rest fielders. 

•  Soccer – Soccer (or football as they call it in Europe) is probably the simplest game to play with a group of friends. Getting a few chairs to use as goalposts as well as a ball are all that is required. If playing in a backyard, you can play without boundaries which means that the ball is always in play. This allows for much excitement as players may take the ball all around the vicinity of the house to avoid losing the ball to the other team.
