”Just a sec,” I said as I went to retrieve an older set of Ugg boots from the store room.

”These’ll sort you out,” I said and he put the boots on and almost instantly I could see utter amazement on his face.

Shocked by the warmth of the boot, he immediately began to harangue me about why I had never told him about them before.  Now it was me who was taken aback.  My country, Australia, is devilishly hot and yet I own at least a couple of pair of Ugg boots.  My friend comes from what is arguably one of the coldest places on the planet and he has no idea what an Ugg boot is.

”Simply amazing,” he said, and I could see straight off he was sold.  With a little giggle I told him that he could keep that pair if he wanted.  Although appreciative of my generosity, he refused based upon his intent to purchase a pair for each member of his immediate family.

So, in the morning, I directed him to my preferred local manufacturer and told him what to look for in terms of quality.  He came back laden down with so many bags I wondered how he had made it back alone!.

“My kids will love these.” I laughed at how something that was so run-of-the-mill to Australians could be considered such a novelty for him.  It gets COLD in Russia so I guess his excitement was understandable.

He departed a few days later with an extra suitcase loaded with Ugg boots and I have to wonder, did I just open up a new international market for Australian Ugg boots?
