The planet is constantly being subjected to natural disasters. From hurricanes to tornadoes and tsunamis to earthquakes and floods, thousands of people have been hit hard and lost everything. After a hurricane or tornado hits an area, it can be difficult to find water, shelter, or food. Humans can’t last for a long period of time if they don’t have any fresh water to drink or an emergency filter to clean contaminated water.

It is absolutely vital that we drink plenty of water every day since we lose a significant amount of it through perspiration, urination, and breathing. In emergencies, however, water resources may have been polluted, municipal water systems disrupted, and bottled water depleted. That’s why it would be in your best interests to have some type of water filtration in place. There are many different filtration methods that you can use. Yet if you don’t have the materials you need on hand to do any of these procedures, you’re going to be in trouble.

It’s important that we’re all prepared in case something bad does happen. You will certainly be glad you took the time to prepare if something does happen. If you need to clean water, then two chemicals that will be useful to you include chlorine and iodine. Iodine is effective in killing viruses and bacteria, but it doesn’t cleanse the water of debris, it doesn’t change the smell, and it leaves a taste in the water that many people don’t like. If you consume chlorine over a long period of time, it will cause harm to your body. You may wonder why municipal water treatment facilities are required to use chlorine to treat their water if it’s harmful to the body.

One of the basic ways to purify water is to boil it, but this won’t be possible if you don’t have any power in your home. During the day time, you could use solar stilling, but if it’s storming in your area, then the sun likely won’t be shining enough for you to use this method.

Instead of relying on chemicals or natural means of purifying water, it’s best to have emergency filtration equipment to use instead. You can last a few days just by having simple equipment such as filtered water bottles or straws. You could use larger filtration systems if you needed clean water over a longer period of time.
