Our kids today are more intelligent than ever. Many kids are starting to learn to read earlier than generations before them. It is important, that starting from at an early age, parents instill a love of reading to their kids. Parents can take these simple learn to read tips and apply it in their own homes. With their guidance, kids learn to read faster and are introduced to the joys of books and the many worlds they have in them. Here are our favorite learn to read tips for children.

1. Read to your child from the earliest possible moment. It is important that as a parent, you set the example. When your child sees you reading to him and hears all the great stories found in books, he will also start to think that reading is a great activity. When you child is old enough, explain to him illustrations in picture books and read to him various stories. This simple act is enough to make creativity grow inside your child.

2. When running errands with your children, like going to the grocery store, why not read out loud various grocery ads as well as sales flyers. Grocery ads are a wonderful reference to start with because the signs are simple, and they usually contain graphics with it, giving your child clues as to what he is reading. What parents can do is point out the words to their child and assist him as he slowly tries to read it. It is a fun way for kids to learn about letters and sounds in a different setting.

3. Videotape or record your child when he reads aloud his favorite stories- kids really get a kick of seeing or hearing themselves doing things. Record your child reading with your home camcorder or a cassette recorder. Then, play that recording and listen to it together. The great thing about listening to a recording is that your kid will be able to hear and see where mistakes were made, and together, you can make improvements so that he gets better the next time you have him read aloud.

Remember that the ultimate goal in all of these activities is to make the activity of reading as fun and fulfilling as possible. The more fun your child perceives reading to be entertaining, then the quicker he will want to learn to read! Also, the more fun and child friendly your activities are, the more your child will want to take part in them, making the teaching process so much more easier for both you and your child.
