We had a new home built a few years ago. It was great having everything new and in working order, but you can imagine our chagrin when only a few weeks after we moved in, our big garage door refused to open. Our garage door was too big to be opened by the light-duty door opener that the builders had chosen to use. The builder chose to use an opener that only had a 1/2-horsepower motor in it, so we had to upgrade it with one that had a 3/4-HP motor. We ended up having to pay extra money because someone didn’t do their job properly the first time around. Since garage door openers are a substantial investment, no one wants to have to replace them.

You should buy the right garage door opener the first time around so that it lasts you for many years to come. There are basically three different designs that you can choose from including belt drive, chain drive, and screw drive. In addition to the horsepower employed by the device, you also need to look for the best safety features that are available, how the system is controlled, and the type of security features it offers. It is important for anyone looking for the perfect door to take quite a few variables into account. You definitely shouldn’t buy the first opener that you see in the store.

There are many different companies that have openers on the market for you to buy. Two companies who have made a name for themselves in the production of quality garage door openers include Chamberlain and Genie. Here is a look at one of the most popular models offered by each of these companies.

* Chamberlain PD752D – the motor inside this opener is 3/4-hp, so it is perfect if you have a heavy garage door. The opener is also backed up by a six year warranty and comes packaged with a wireless keypad, two remotes, and rolling code technology that enables you to change the entry code. Noise can be a problem when using this opener which is one of its main problems.

* Genie ISD990-2X Excelerator Screw Drive Garage Door Opener – If you are looking for a system that offers speed, then this screw driven system with a 1/2-horsepower motor should definitely be one on your short list. The door won’t close as quickly though for safety reasons. One of the most notable features about the system is its use of a wide angle lighting system and the fact that the motor operates very quietly. Doc No. 34Sdlhgsdl -sds
