The childfree get some amazing questions. 2 that will truly get to the childfree are, What do you do with your time? And Don't you get bored without somebody (children, grand children, great grand youngsters) to worry about?

The hunches behind these questions are a bit annoying. The first query appears to suggest that they must have a lot of free time because they aren't elders. Not true. Now some might like a quieter life but many childfree would say their lives are just as busy as parents lives what they do with their time just is composed of different things, including but certainly not restricted to commitment to their professional lives, following avid interests, volunteering to contribute to their communities and causes they have a belief in, and tending to family (such folks, aunt and uncle roles). The idea that the childfree have loads of free time is just a parable, but there to truth in the concept that they keep more control over their time.

Are the childfree more likely to be bored because they do not have some other person to stress about? No, this thinking just reflects the ludicrous assumption that because they don't have kids, they must not have anyone else to stress about. Like everyone else, they have loved ones in their lives who are crucial to them, that they do stress about. The childfree do not stress about their each move like parents need to do when raising kids.

The idea they aren't stressing about their children also reflects the assumption the childfree must be troubling only about themselves. This idea points toward the popular myth the childfree must be self-absorbed people. Again, not correct. Because they don't have kids, the childfree actually have more time to think beyond themselves and their fast family, to larger community, countrywide and world issues, and use their time to be part of figuring out these issues. And simply because they don't have youngsters of their own doesn't mean they don't seem to be devoted to their family, extended families, their mates and their kids.

Instead of asking the childfree questions that imply we only target ourselves and have plenty of time to do this, how about taking a genuine interest in the person?s life without bias or judgment around the fact kids aren't some of it? When the questions come from this place, we're going to have made progress on letting go of crazy childfree myths.
