When people are influenced by allergies and allergens it can actually influence their standard of life. Allergic responses are on the increase and it is estimated that they can affect up to 40% of the population at one point. They can cause soreness of the eyes and nose (rhinitis), lungs (asthma) and skin (eczema).

One controllable culprit in the battle of allergens is the house dust mite. As most individuals spend up to 1/3 of their life in bed it could be that their mattress is one of the reasons behind the difficulty. As we will be able to spend $10,000 for our mattresses we should take care of them. Humans are continually regenerating their skin which provides nutriments for the dust mite and the mattress gives a warm and humid environment for them to live and grow. Regardless of how clean your home is, it’s likely that there will be dust mites found here.

It is usually recommended that mattresses should be cleaned every six months by a certified cleaner. Using an extraction method is the right way because this can reduce allergens. To reduce allergenic substance irritations ‘tween regular cleaning, a professional cleaner can also apply a neutralising spray. This spray neutralises a protein in the dust mite faeces which is what acts as a trigger for allergies. It isn’t a pest control chemical.

Our mattresses are poisoned with dust mites, dust mite faeces, dead skin, body oils, sweat stains and so on. The average mite is 0.5mm in length and is non perceivable to the naked eye. Over 7000 of them can fit on a fingernail. A dust mite moults numerous times during its life, producing 200 times its weight in waste and will lay 300 eggs. Each mite produces 40 to 100 faeces pellets per day. The mite’s droppings are smothered in an enzymatic slimy substance which, after drying, becomes combined with other particles forming household dust.

You should have an allergenic substance control plan which also involves regular cleaning of your carpets and other upholstery. To manage dust mites there are more steps you can take:

Use of air filter devices in your rooms

Sheets should be washed weekly using hot water

Pillows should be washed at least quarterly unless a dust mite proof cover is being exploited

Blankets should be washed on a monthly basis

Mattresses should be professionally cleaned twice a year

If you follow this advice you are helping yourself and your folks keep allergies and allergenic substances under control.
