In a town best known for its contributions to music culture, visitors might be shocked at the vast quantity of history and culture contained in the city of Memphis. Whether looking for art, music, natural history or dinosaurs, Memphis museums are a wonderful place for residents and travellers alike to spend a fun and academic afternoon.</p>
<p>Pink Palace Museum</p>
<p>Built from pink Georgia marble, this mansion is one of the largest museums of its sort in the American southeast. Exhibits showcase natural and local history along with having an IMAX theater and a planetarium with light shows. The Pink Palace also has one or two touring exhibits, so there&#8217;s always something new to see. Some examples of traveling exhibits during the past have included sea monsters and dinosaurs exhibits, as well as &#8220;Inside Africa&#8221;, an exhibit showcasing the animal life and culture of the African continent. Overall, this is definitely one of the most varied museums in Memphis.</p>
<p>Memphis Brooks Museum of Art</p>
<p>Featuring a consistently revolving selection of permanent and traveling art displays, the offerings at Brooks Museum of Art change frequently. From paintings to sculptures and artifacts, there&#8217;s a wide variety of things to appreciate here, and the museum constantly offers specialized events and tours. Seniors get reduced-price admission, and cheap memberships are available, making this a good place for older Memphis residents to enjoy some quiet relaxation and admire pretty art. On Wednesdays, visitors can even set their own entrance costs.</p>
<p>National Civil Rights Museum</p>
<p>This Memphis museum is housed in the significant Lorraine Motel, where Martin Luther King, Jr. Was murdered. The exhibits show the development of the civil rights movement in America, beginning with slavery and terminating in the 20th century. Showcasing images, models and paper clippings, this is a historic experience.</p>
<p>Memphis Rock &#8216;n&#8217; Soul Museum</p>
<p>Memphis is considered by many to be the birthplace of both rock and soul music, and this museum showcases the city of Memphis&#8217; vibrant musical history. With exhibits covering music history from the 1930s through to today, there&#8217;s lots to see here. Audio tours are self-guided and include 300 minutes of information regarding seven different galleries. The Memphis Rock &#8216;n&#8217; Soul Museum also offers reduced-price entry to youths, and the reasonable pricing makes it a great destination for young people and music fans of every age group.</p>

From conventional and modern paintings to intricate sculptures and age-old relics, the art galleries in Memphis will supply an enlightening experience like no other.</p>
<p>Belz Museum of Asian and Judaic Art</p>
<p>Whether an individual is very well-cultured or merely a fan of beautiful art, the Belz Museum of Asian and Judaic Art will leave her breathless and amazed. The collection of historic pieces includes a smaller section dedicated to the Eastern EU cultures while the remainder of the museum features an Asiatic gallery. The Belz Museum includes the largest collection of Chinese art in the southern US. With the majority coming from the age of the late Qing Dynasty, this unique grove of treasures includes some of the rarest art to be found anywhere. With just about 1,000 individual pieces dating from 200 B.C. To the present time, the Belz Asian collection is unique and extensive. The Judaic portion features the work of a few of the most well liked Israeli artists of the modern times, including Daniel Kafri. The most important collection outside of Isreal exists at the Belz so this alone is reason to check it out.</p>
<p>Dixon Gallery &amp; Gardens</p>
<p>One of the more unique Memphis art galleries is the Dixon Studio &amp; Gardens. The point of interest of the studio is the fine arts collection that features 20th century French Impressionist and Realist art and 18th and 19th century British art. In addition to this extensive fine painting collection, this studio features big outside sculptures and garden art. Dixon Gallery and Gardens combines the more conventional studio experience with the more original concept of enjoying art in nature, from where lots of the gallery&#8217;s pieces found their first inspiration.</p>
<p>Jay Etkin Gallery</p>
<p>The Jay Etkin features contemporary and ethnic art from assorted cultures around the world. Found in an 8,000 square foot space, this gallery showcases masses of sculptures, paper works, paintings, still lifes, and media works as well. Arts fans that appreciate variety and variety will have a great time at the Jay Etkin Gallery.</p>
<p>David Lusk Gallery</p>
<p>This unique gallery features a collection of contemporary work from a great variety of artists. Fans of modern styles will appreciate the David Lusk Gallery and it will not fail to please. From names like Veda Reed and Dwayne Butcher to Twin and Beth Edwards, there are so many local native and world stars to keep an eye open for.</p>
<p>Memphis College of Art</p>
<p>The Memphis exhibits premiered in 1981 and initially only housed artwork from traveling artists. Since that time, the Memphis College of Art gallery has gained an everlasting collection from artists near and far. The Memphis College of Art gallery also has projects from the school&#8217;s Masters programs and shows off the talent locally. The Works On Paper collection offers pieces from over a thousand different 19th and 20th century artists from Europe and the Americas. Some of the well-known talent includes Andrew Topolski and Friedemann van Stockhausen.</p>
