Back when I was a teen I was awfully targeted on the here and now. Existence was a matter of life and death when it came to having a partner, being accepted and listening to music. It was straightforward to get stuck in the moment with the sole focus on getting out for the weekend “and maybe even a couple of times in the week.

I wanted to rebel at home and have my free space, yet I didn't want to leave the security of the home. I wanted the freedom of the town so long as I didn't have the responsibility that comes with handling the keys. I wanted my own money but didn’t want to find a job. Now I'm employed as a SEO consultant and I used to be a P. C. phobic. Life goes on, whether or not a dynamic youth does not need it to. Being a youth although you may be depressed, you kind of see yourself and your philosophies as the top of human existence.

I assumed money would just fall into my lap with no need to work for it. Now I've learned that lesson and lots more besides. Back during my youth more than 2 decades back only the riders or the hardened few had tattoos. Now you are in the minority at 19 if you do not have one.

Children even get words of songs emblazoned across their chest, arms and neck. Tattoos are permanent in most situations. You can not have your whole life summed up in one song, one passing chorus or slight remark. I'd die and live by the lyrics I would worry over and doodle down on my mix tapes and notepads when I was younger.

Thank The Lord I never got any of them etched to my skin. I was depressed when I was a young teenager, but I sure as heck ain’t now, and wouldn't want to be scarred by a lyric for the rest of my life that doesn't define who I am now.

That is the difficulty with being young. You believe that everything is last. It won't ever change. Or you dash out to do something life affirming because you are terrified you may change. Ironic. And yes you will. Life is a sequence of events some good, some bad, some incidental “or so you'd think. They'll change you. They're going to make you into a different person. And that is the point of life. You can't stay 17 for evermore. And why would you like to? Life doesn't top at 17. Like a vintage wine it becomes better with age.
