Alleviating Gingivitis In The Natural Way

A tinge of blood on the brush or floss, swollen and sore gums, bad breath – these are a few of the symptoms of periodontal disease.  The first stage and often times non-destructive is called gingivitis.  This condition can be treated if caught at the onset or in the early stages.  When left unchecked and untreated, this could lead to more severe dental cases which could lead to loss of teeth.

There are various causes of this kind of oral condition, but the accumulation of bad bacteria in the mouth may be the main factor to getting gingivitis. Among the other reasons are systemic factors when there is a hormonal imbalance and when you are prone to the disease. These changes could happen when we enters puberty, has menstrual cycle, pregnant and if you suffer from diabetes and leukaemia. Some medications could also induce gingivitis, particularly those medications for treating epileptic seizures. Aside from this, malnutrition could also cause gingivitis. The lack of nutrients in the body can lead to poor immune system therefore; it is easy for bad bacteria to invade your body system.

To be able to avoid gingivitis, or hinder its progression, you must give time for proper oral hygiene. You can actually allot at least five to ten minutes of dental care every after meal to curb bacterial growth in the mouth. In addition to this, it is also essential to consult your dentist or oral hygienist for advice and further recommendations to stop gingivitis.

You may treat gingivitis naturally, especially at the initial phase of the disease. You may be advised for dental procedures and you can follow it up with natural ways to prevent further bouts with it. You can use a baking soda solution and massaged it to your gum line to alleviate swelling gums and at the same time makes your teeth sparkle, giving you a fresher breath as it neutralizes the acidic effects of the bacteria. Aloe gel can also heal inflamed gums. Clove oil on gums will also offer curative results. Gargling with a glass of lukewarm water with a dash of salt or triphala powder is another good option for treating gum disease.

Eat healthy and avoid too much sugary foods is a better direction.  Spicy and abrasive foods may also irritate your gums that could start of infection should also be avoided.  You can never go wrong with tons of vitamins and minerals in your system.  Drop cigarette and tobacco products as well as alcoholic drinks.  And as what has been advised over and over is to properly practice good oral hygiene to be gingivitis-free.
