I was walking down the streets of Perth the other day, on my way to a friend’s birthday party, when I started to wonder about what makes a good party? It all came down to five factors, these five factors;
{1)} Timing. Is the day/time suitable? Don’t do Sunday night to Thursday night, I work and so do most people. Truly, I need to sleep in the morning after, without exception, and the weekend is the only time I can do that.
{2)} Expenses. Is there any kind of admission fee? Having a price attached to a party may seem a stupid idea but it can have hidden benefits. It will immediately demonstrate quality. Sometimes it can mean a commercial venue, which is always a win with me. Anyway, a price on admission means I had better be impressed.
{3)} What’s the theme? Party ideas are in no short supply and birthday parties in particular are always more fun when they have a theme. Effort by the guest usually pays off with greater rewards. People are always more revved up and ready to party at costume or themed parties.
{4)} People. The guest list is another area I am concerned with when judging whether to go or not. Their mood can be contagious so they need to be the right people at the right time. I simply can’t go past a party with hundreds attending, it is simply impossible to get that many people together without something fun happening.
{5)} Place. Although I have listed it last, it is the most important. The venue and the atmosphere it creates is the critical factor. My ability to party directly reflects the venue. The decorations and party supply need to be spot on too. When the decorations don’t match the theme I can’t help but be a little confused and disappointed. I am always comforted when the hosts take on the services of party shop to help them with all aspects of the birthday party or whatever the celebration may be.
That’s it, wasn’t too convoluted or difficult in the end, just a short list of what contributes to a party. Get three of the five right and you’re in for a good night.
