Clothing stores seem to have a better success rate than many other business ventures. Customers are always in need of clothing, and there is a wide range of clothing styles and brands that can appeal to a wide range of potential clients. One of the first lessons that you will need to learn is how to buy wholesale clothing, especially in order to stock your store with appropriate clothing at a great price.
When you open a retail business, your customers purchase smaller quantities; only one or two pieces of clothing. Wholesale clothing provides a greater opportunity for profits since larger quantities are sold at discount prices. The real business opportunity is to offer wholesale brand names; quality clothing at discount prices.
If customer groups are too small, readers will be concerned that there isn’t enough potential revenue from the target markets for the store to show a profit. Remember that readers will not believe that you can ever achieve 100% of a market. You have to show that you will be able to break even with much smaller market shares, especially in the early days of your store.
Three or Four Segments Is Good Enough
To prove the excellence of your store’s potential, you may be tempted to write a list of target markets segments that you can target. Resist this temptation, and clearly show your focus on three or four segments at most for the short-term. If the amount of revenues that you can achieve from these groups seems limited over time, then you can go on to describe some future target markets, labeled as such, to detail the next steps the company can take when the original targets are tapped out.
While it may seem that the more you offer, the better you business will be, this is an incorrect assumption, especially if you are new to the business. Start small and expand. Perhaps you will want to start with women’s or children’s clothing and then pull in the adult men. Look at your market and offer something that is in demand. Using wholesale to stock your shop will allow you to start making back your investment while providing up to date styles for your customers
